Background
Shoreditch High Street in East London is a bustling hub, known for its blend of creative and tech-savvy professionals. Located near Shoreditch Station and the popular Boxpark, it’s a prime advertising spot, capturing the attention of both pedestrians and traffic.
However, the large-format LED screen, a key advertising platform operated by City Outdoor Media, had been in place for over a decade and needed an upgrade to maintain its impact.
Challenge
City Outdoor Media required an upgrade of the aging LED screen to ensure its continued effectiveness. EcoVista was tasked with replacing the old display with a high-performance, energy-efficient system that could deliver vibrant visuals in all weather conditions. The project needed to be completed quickly to minimise downtime, as the screen is a crucial part of the client’s advertising network.
Sustainability was also a priority, with an emphasis on reusing as much of the existing structure as possible to reduce both costs and environmental impact. The busy location meant the upgrade had to be executed without causing major disruptions to traffic or pedestrians.
Solution
EcoVista managed the entire project, providing a turnkey solution. The process began with removing the outdated screen and upgrading the electrical infrastructure to support the new technology.
The chosen display from i5 LED, offers high-quality visuals with a 10mm pixel pitch and 7500 nits brightness, ensuring crisp, clear images even in direct sunlight.
Despite the busy location, EcoVista’s team completed the installation without requiring road closures, thanks to the modular design of the new display. The old panels were swapped out like-for-like, fitting perfectly into the existing framework. This avoided the need for heavy machinery, reducing both disruption and costs.
Sustainability was at the heart of the project. EcoVista reused the original steel structure, eliminating the need for new materials and further reducing environmental impact. The old LED components were disposed of responsibly under WEEE regulations, ensuring minimal waste.
The entire installation was completed in just three days, significantly reducing the screen’s downtime. A full rebuild would have taken weeks and resulted in costly disruptions.
Result
The Shoreditch High Street LED screen was successfully upgraded on time and within budget. The efficient installation process meant that the screen was only out of service for a few days, allowing City Outdoor Media to quickly resume advertising operations.
The new screen delivers sharper visuals and a longer lifespan, ensuring it remains a high-impact platform in this key London location.
EcoVista’s sustainable approach and ability to minimise disruption strengthened its relationship with City Outdoor Media, which dates back to the original installation over ten years ago. The two companies continue to collaborate on further upgrades, including projects at Deansgate Tower and Miller Street in Manchester.
By prioritising sustainability, reducing downtime and maintaining high standards of quality, EcoVista showcased its expertise in delivering large and complex digital signage projects that meet both the environmental and operational needs of its clients.
